Hello, Fabulous Person,
I have been struggling with something here behind the scenes. I’m trying to figure out how I can contribute something to the world and make a living doing that without contributing to the clutter. I want my imprint, footprint, and output to add value. I am in the process of unsticking myself. I’m trying to do that with intention.
Our time, attention, life spaces are being stuffed so full that there isn’t much breathing room left. There aren’t spaces in between into which we might wander aimlessly and discover magic. I talked about the idea of Conscious Consumption recently. As I pull at that thread, I wonder if stuff, old stuff, new stuff, stuff that I make, stuff to make stuff…if any of this stuff is the answer.
This is the stuff that keeps me up at 4 a.m. thinking in circles.
I think that my ideas, my thoughts, my words, my insights have more value. That’s why I wrote my book. That’s why I write essays here. That’s why I make video content. I want to encourage people to create space for happiness, love, wonder, adventure, compassion, and curiosity. I want to encourage them to have less, and do more. I want to have less and do more. I want my thoughts, my words, and my insights to be the way forward.
Writers are artists. The page is our blank canvas. The words, letters, and punctuation our brushstrokes.
That is our art, and it has value.
That is my art, and it has value.
The things is, my words may have meaning and resonance, or not. My art may have impact, or not. My contribution to the noise may help others find clarity or it may feel like cacophony. I can’t control that.
I am in the process of unsticking myself. I believe the way forward is not about old stuff, new stuff, stuff that I make, or stuff to make stuff. The way forward is through my thoughts, my words, and my insights.
I feel less sticky already.
