Kaleidoscope AND a FISKARS Giveaway!

Kaleidoscope Necklace from New Dimensions in Bead and Wire Jewelry Copyright 2010 Margot Potter

A while ago on Project Runway a contestant created a design featuring the combination of teal and vivid orange. I LOVED it. The judges, not so much. In fact Ms. Klum and another judge claimed that blue and orange didn't compliment each other.

Insert record scratch...here.

Blue and orange actually are complimentary colors! Doh.

I happen to adore the combination and use it often, here with some splashes of yellow for good measure.

This design is in my new book New Dimensions in Bead and Wire Jewelry. I used vintage and reproduction plastic components from The Beadin' Path. You can actually purchase this fabulous design in my Etsy Shoppe for a song! It's kinetic, the smaller elements spin and move. You can also see this on Color Guru Brenda Pinnick's new site Color Cafe!

Speaking of ORANGE, which is the color of the year as all fashion savvy folk know...I have a little giveaway! It's the 45th anniversary of everyone's favorite scissors FISKARS! WOO HOO! If you leave a comment here telling me what you love about the color orange, I will select someone next week to win a pair of Fiskars class orange handled scissors AND a signed copy of my new book New Dimensions in Bead and Wire Jewelry with a little piece of ephemera from my personal collection tucked inside.

PS: Tune in today to JTV's Jewel School from 10am-Noon EST if you want a super shopportunity!  And when I say super, I mean...SUPER DUPER!

Love
Madge

I love orange with black since I love Halloween, but I kind of avoid it all other times of the year. I kind of wonder how I would feel about it if I hadn't grown up in the shadow of the UT Vols? Combine it with reminding me of TDOT's traffic barrels ( constant road construction around here) and I can understand why it's not my personal favorite.

I do, however, love scissors (I don't think I've had any fiskars since elementary school) and craft books and I don't really care what color they are. :D

I agree, Orange and blue do go together very nicely.

I hope you have a fabulous time today at JTV. I came here from your FB Page.
I would love a chance to win a copy of your latest book, and who doesn't love a paid of the classic Orange scissor?.
I personally LOVE the teal and orange combo.
Perhaps we should send the lovely Ms. Klum a color wheel and give her a quick demo of how color works!
Love, love, love the piece - and I have to check out the Beadin' Path for those unique wheels.
Thank you!

My daughter's favorite color is orange. I am wearing my orange sweater right now. Until about 2010 I never saw orange as having a place in my life. But I welcomed color in at that time and orange challenged me to a duel! I mastered the color and the real reason is pairing it with others, although it is a knockout on its own! I am wearing my orange sweater with a royal blue shirt underneath. It always makes me happy to have this color near now.

Orange is a powerful color. It can liven up almost any other. Try it with red for a fiery combination, or purple for more royal connotations. And with pink it makes for a pretty bouquet. It looks great with silver, gold, gunmetal and even copper. I am into pairing little pops of orange with brown right now.

I remember that episode of PR! Even my daughter knew that was incorrect! And I love your necklace with the movement. I immediately though of spirographs. remember that toy? I love it!

Enjoy the day!

What I love about orange is that it doesn't want to be ignored. It's not a sit-in-the-corner kind of color -- it wants to be the center of attention, in the middle of the room, with every pair of eyes focused on it.

There's really nothing anyone can do to orange that can make it dull, and if that isn't something for a person to strive for, I don't know what is!

Oh it has taken me a long long time to like the color orange...and I'm not even sure I'm there yet! I don't think I'd ever actually WEAR orange (Irish gal complete with nearly black hair, pale skin and blue eyes...wear orange? Not happenin'!) HOWEVER, I did recently purchase a beautiful "jelly roll" of fabric to make a quilt for my bedroom, and it has oranges, greens and blues in it, so I"m trying to introduce it into my decor!
My kids have been wearing orange since they were little, as it's one of our town's colors (school spirit-wise) Orange and brown...can you imagine. Their summer rec shirts have always been orange, so it's taken a long, slow-moving time for me to begin to like orange. I'm making progress!LOL

I love the color orange, especially when it is a bright, bright orange. Though I dislike blue... I love to mix it with black or purple. Thanks for the chance to win... would love to have a copy of your book and of course the Fiskars!
