REAL SIMPLE KICKS OFF THE FIRST-EVER
“BE NICE ON THE INTERNET” WEEK
JANUARY 9-13, 2012
Thankfully my blogs are mostly nasty comment free as I have some of the friendliest readers around, but my YouTube and Amazon pages...not so much. I think it fascinating how people feel this strange sense of power through anonymity which results in having absolutely no compunction about leaving nasty grams all over the internet. Perhaps this should be dubbed online sociopathy. One wonders if these Johnny Crappleseeds truly do feel some sort of twisted pleasure in being so cruel. It is hard to say, but anyone with a blog or online presence can attest to just how much these kinds of comments can wreck an otherwise perfectly lovely day.
I decided after one too many mean spirited comments and reviews from people who obviously had issues that went far beyond not liking a video or book or blog post, that I was no longer going to allow these internet trolls to have power over me. Thusly, I began responding to their reviews and comments in a quippy, humorous way. Eventually I decided to turn this idea into a blog and it's been a delicious experience indeed! The love child of Miss Manners and Dorothy Parker, Ms. Madge(rs) is on a mission to clean the internet one dirty comment at a time. If you have nasty comments you'd like to send to her for a thorough cleansing, please do at margot@margotpotter.com! Let's spread the word about Real Simple's simply fabulous initiative! Here's to championing civil discourse and online courtesy, huzzah!
Cheers,
Madge
