Show and Don't Tell.

Primal Copyright Margot Potter 2009

This is what you call show and don't tell. In other words, I can't tell you how I made these designs or what I used to make them because they are for me to sport at the tradeshows and hopefully some or all of them will find homes in publications. Though I must admit sometimes I love things so much, I want to keep them for myself and in the case of all three of these designs that's how I feel. I worked extremely hard on executing these. Balance, form, problem solving...I told someone today that I'm an architect who works with beads and wire and I think that describes my work well. These suit my style and my sense of scale, which is larger than life.

I'm still spinning straw so I'm keeping it brief. Enjoy the pics! Until we meet again...craft on with your bad selves!

Hey Margot,

I LOVE "Mod Bubbles". If I was wearing that bracelet I would spend all day wanting to go to a party because it is so festive and stylish. I also really like your title "Show and Don't Tell". I hold back so much on my own site because I don't want people to know my designs before they are published. Someday I hope to just post everything in my gallery without any fear.

Okay, I see now it's obviously a necklace since the scale and the others are necklaces. I don't know why I thought that. I think sometimes my brain just sees what it wants to see... and I wanna see a bracelet! Can't wait until you post the ACTUAL bracelet.... lol, I'll probably go crazy over that. What's funny is I once submitted a collar type necklace with a bib coming off of it to a gallery show, and when the the girls who worked at the gallery presented it to the judges, they modeled it as a BELT because it had this long ribbon connected to it to tie around the neck. I can help but wonder if it would have been judged differently if they knew it the beadwork was designed to actually hang down over your chest and not your nether regions!

Thank you so much for your kind compliments. You are not the only person who thought those were bracelets! It's my fault for not writing necklace on them or showing the scale of the designs! No worries at all!

That is a hilarious story! Will you be in Tucson? I hope to see you there!

Cheers,
Madge

Yeah, I definitely learned MY lesson about labeling pieces after the whole bib-necklace/belt-panties incident!

I will be in Tucson! I am SO excited. I was the 17 year old finalist in Swarovski's contest last year, and we met briefly. I am planning on attending the party again this year. So I will see you there! I have a piece on display for the KGI Contest and am going down to vote on it. I am really happy that this contest has 50% of the judging going to the voting public. Art is so subjective, you know?

I remember you and your design! I was a CYS judge for that year. It would be impossible to forget you and your design work, truly.

Can't wait to see you in Tucson!

Best
